WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW

Savannah Sparrows were out in numbers today on Fabacher Road in Calcasieu Parish. It was refreshing to see an immature White-crowned Sparrow sitting on a limb in a Giant Ragweed Plant snacking on some  seeds.

A head-on look reveals the immature's stunning dark red-brown and light buff head stripes.

Another immature White-Crowned Sparrow showed up not far away.

This female American Kestrel was perched on a utility line keeping a sharp eye out for a meal.
