LEAST TERN

Good things come in small packages!

The tiny Coastal Least Terns weigh a whopping 1.0 oz - 1.5 oz. It is the smallest of Terns having a wingspan of 20 inches and measuring approximately 9 inches in length. This cute little Tern is a pleasure to see on the coast of Louisiana diving for food and is certain to put a smile on your face.

The zen-like amorphous fluff ball accompanied by its attentive, caring parent created a sense of camouflage and serenity setting a fantastic mood.

The devoted parent provides sustenance for its offspring in the form of a small fish.

My favorite subjects are the interaction of parents with their chicks / juveniles. It was a gratifying feeling to capture this aesthetically appealing image to share with all Louisiana birders.

Checking out the vast new world on tiny feet with visions of one day being airborne.

SUMMER MARSH BIRDS IN LOUISIANA

Pictured below are a few delightful summer birds found in our Louisiana marshes. If you haven't seen them I hope you see them soon.

An American Coot standing on one leg chilling out on the bank. Although these birds are numerous in the Winter there are still a few hanging around.

A black-masked adult male Common Yellowthroat locked on his perch.

An immature Red-winged Blackbird hanging out in the reeds.

An Anhinga aka 'Snake Bird' taking a break sitting on a post. These guys appear snakelike as they swim submerged with only their necks sticking above the water.
