THE FIRST LADY

Although overshadowed by her male counterpart isn't the 'First Lady' a B-E-A-U-T-Y? The colors and patterns on these ducks are awesome.

The distinctive colored drake Mallard's claim to fame is his iconic iridescent green head and his curled tail feathers.

IN SYNCH

Have you noticed how 'IN-SYNCH' geese are at times? Check out the angle of descent, the head turn, the wing position, the leg position and even the facial expression of these two dark morph Snow Geese. Crazy, huh?  :)

Even the feathers flexing at the tips of their wings are practically the same.

The Specklebellies answer to the United States Navy's Blue Angels? :)

The clowns. Larry, Moe and Curly Joe? Looks like Larry is giving you the wave and a 'honk'. :)

Pumping their wings hard before touching down.

CINNAMON TEAL

Nearly all Cinnamon Teal winter in Mexico and Central America. This one decided to hang out in Cajun Country at Pintail Loop. Seeing this rare-to-Louisiana Cinnamon Teal reminded me of one I harvested as a teenager when hunting ducks.

A look at its blue shoulder patch and green speculum separated by a white stripe.

BOTTOM'S UP and you can see its iridescent plumage when the light hits just right.

What do you think of that piercing, distinctive red eye?

VERMILION FLYCATCHER

This stunning little scarlet red Vermilion Flycatcher was darting out from the fence line catching insects in mid-air or sometimes dropping to the ground to pluck one up. He lit on the fence line with a black cow in the background.

WHERE DO HAWKS SLEEP?

I've never seen a Hawk at night or a picture of a Hawk at night so I thought this would be a good opportunity to share such a picture.

Have you ever wondered, "Where do Hawks sleep? (in a Holiday Inn Express?)"  I can't speak for all Hawks however this particular Red-tailed Hawk was perched in a hardwood tree with his talons wrapped around a horizontal limb in a somewhat protected position.

At first his head was not obvious. I believe it was turned around tucked into the feathers on his back.

A better view from underneath. I took my picture, walked away and let him sleep.
